If you want to watch Youtube in USM main campus, better do that before the end of the year, because the PPKT is flip-flopping again.

Kepada Semua Pengguna,
Pusat Pengetahuan Komunikasi & Teknologi (PPKT) telah membuka capaian ke Laman Youtube dari 27 September 2011 kepada semua pengguna di kampus Induk SAHAJA dan akan ditutup kembali pada 30 Disember 2011.
Tindakan ini adalah untuk menilai implikasi sebenar pembukaan Laman Youtube ke atas kapasiti Bandwidth Jalur Lebar sedia ada dan prestasi capaian ke Internet secara amnya di sepanjang tempoh ini.

What harm can this website do to students is beyond me.
They blocked Radio24 (www.radio24.com.my), Bernama owned 24 hours NEWS radio channel too because apparently it's under "internet radio/television" category.
The rubbish reason the PPKT peeps gave me when I lodged a complaint to them asking them unblock through Servisdesk@PPKT is that the "tindakan sewajarnya" is to block it because streaming eats up bandwidth. What they asked me to do: write a formal letter asking the CIO of PPKT. How frustrating.
Oh well. It seems that PPKT is not keen to "memartabatkan penyiaran tempatan" anyway. Off I go to listen to BBC World Service and watch Al Jazeera, STREAMED LIVE online.
